Community Volunteers

The system of community volunteers was introduced in 1996.

The aim of this project is to enable the relationship of the volunteers be closer, expedite news circulation, promote cooperation at work, form a network for “relieving the suffering at call”.

Since its campaign on Community Volunteering in 1996, Tzu Chi volunteers are encouraged to cultivate themselves in their own community, through the sharing at group gathering, their professionalism and volunteering spirit are elevated. To recruit more volunteers, they will carry out “Spread Love to the World” tea parties, encouraging the neighborhoods to join the Great Love activities. Also, they actively look for people in need in their community.

The founding of the “Community Volunteering” system is a realization of the Confucius ideal “The Beauty of Community”. Through the initiative of the volunteers, a net work of inter-connected communities is set up, so the community residents can live at ease in the peaceful community, and they can also help and watch other communities.

Serving the Community, Inspiring Fellow Canadians

Canada has long been a nation for immigrants; in 2013 over 120,000 people became new Canadians. Since 2009, at the invitation of now-retired Immigration Judge Mina Fung, the Tzu Chi West Toronto volunteers have been special guests at many citizenship ceremonies. In addition to introducing Tzu Chi to more people, we hope that by our example,  many new Canadians will realize the spirit of volunteering, and contribute meaningfully to our society.
